An Organized Life: Master Closet

My first stride into living a simple life means starting the year with a good purge. I decided to start in the closets. I removed around 50 items from my closet that I have not worn this past year. I also did this last year, yikes. I won't even mention how many pieces I took out of Ellie and KJ's closets. Let's just say they dress well. I plan to do this twice a year. My closet isn't anything special. Long and narrow. I get the bottom and the Mr. gets the top on one side. The other side is just big enough for a few shoe shelves that aren't even full anymore do to the purge, yay!

I hang all my clothes by type then color. It just makes me happy. Oh, and yes we have plastic hangers of all colors. So ugly, I know, but they are cheap. I would love to one day do all wooden hangers, but for now I will just try to make them all cohesive in all white.

This year I am going to try to buy only a few new items. I would love to say none, but that's not really realistic for me. My number one want right now is the perfect white v-neck tee that you can't see through. I think it is a staple that can go with just about anything. Let me know if you have a good source.

This closet somewhat reminds me of my own although mine is not quite as pretty, but every post needs a pretty picture right?

This is sooo timely for me as today I am having some shelves put in my closet for shoes (your are darling by the way). I organize my clothes the same way you do...but my shoes were in piles on the floor. I love love the idea of photos in the closet, too.

If you have an Ikea nearby, they sell packs of wooden hangers for dirt cheap! Love the closet at the bottom of the post. That has been my dream closet, too.

Nothing feels quite as satisfying as a good clean-out. I just did this myself and, throughout my apartment, found 144 items to donate to people who are less fortunate than I. It felt so good. Happy weekend, Paula!

I've (very) slowly been acquiring my wooden hangers. One day I will have all the ones I need. Ikea and Nordstrom Rack help a lot with their low(er) cost.

Have a lovely weekend!

I love an organized closet--I've taken a wardrobe styling class and one of the main objectives as a Personal Wardrobe Stylist is to teach people about closet organization. Needless to say after that class I detoxed my closets and dressers and ORGANIZED like crazy!!

Look how organized you are! I could need a great closet makeover myself. And I could get rid of a LOT. All wood hangers would be lovely. But my hubby keeps coming home with the wired ones from the dry cleaners and they seem to take over the entire space.

Do you have a H&M nearby? I like their label "Logg" for casual long sleeved tees (all models). They are a tad thicker and the stiching is great.

Happy weekend to you and your family.

Yay for organization! Um, if you ever need a different venue to 'donate' Ellie's clothes away... I'd happily pay the shipping fee to Colorado! :) Breckyn would be in heaven.

Your shoe collection is wonderful. I am always inspired by design postings, and always hope that by reading and perusing through enough of these photos, my room will miraculously look like one. {Update, my closet still looks like a closet and less like a design inspiration.}

But cheers to beautiful pictures. Have a wonderful weekend.

Thanks for the reminder. My closet needs a little TLC too! I also have mismatched plastic hangers, so don't worry. Now you know one other person who buys the cheapees.

Paula- "plastic hangers of all colors" Too funny! I traded all my plastic hangers for white or black from my husbands side last year, but looking now all the colors have seemed to sneak back in!

A friend of mine who designs clothing had a beautiful catalog for professional clothing hangers. I'll try to find the name of it. In bulk, the hangers were very inexpensive.

I'm cleaning up my closet for a clothing swap at my house next month. So many things I have never worn for a year. Have to make some room!

This inspired me to clean out my closet this weekend. Ran to Dollar Tree yesterday to get the white plastic hangers to hang up everything to take to consignment/Good Will.

A few years ago I changed all of my hangers to wooden ones from Ross. They are super cheap... and it was easy to collect up enough. Well, my side has wooden hangers--- Michael's side does not!

Let me know if you find a good white vneck T. I wear them out... and need a new one or two!

Good for you organizing your close and getting rid of clothes! I do that every once in a while, but it should probably be more often considering there are a lot of pieces that I don't wear. Good work!

I have the ugly plastic colorful hanger curse as well. I'd love to switch them all over to pretty wooden ones but there are so many better uses for our cash right now. Great job on the purge!

January 30, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterHello Lover...

paula you are totally inspiring me to do a massive purge...i feel it coming on. thank you.

i also organize my closet by color ;-)

you can get wooden hangers at IKEA for super cheap. a couple of years ago, i would buy $10 worth every time i went...in just a few months my whole closet was switched out.
