I am ready {in the garden}

With the seasons changing it gets me so excited about my spring garden that will hopefully bloom. Not sure how it will turn out though since things started to bud much too soon and we never got the solid freeze we need that makes my limelight hydrangeas come back to life. Our backyard is also more on the awful side. With all the rain we have had and the unevenness of our yard made so many bare spots. I would love to just top soil it all and start from the beginning. We may make that happen I hope. The above spaces I find ever so inspiring. Oh, and Dana Wolter had a wonderful post on spring gardening that has me itching to get started already. Any advice on making a bad yard better economically? I would love some input!

I am super antsy for spring and gardens! My tulips are starting to sprout up which has me hopeful!
we're in a tough spot too - our tiny patio doesn't get enough light to even keep rosemary alive (and we're in california!)! after 3 seasons of stubborn attempts and plant life - we've settled for flagstone, pea gravel and more than a few iron lanterns (+ 2 stoic topiaries!).
it's totally usable, and while it's not my dream garden - it's also not perpetually reminding me of my black thumb.
good luck!
What a lovely blog! I'm with you, so ready for spring. WA state is grey and dark for another month or so and I'm ready to dump the boots! My yard is frozen and muddy.. Maybe if I wear some spring color I will feel better? :)
I'm so jealous! It will be AGES before Spring shows her face around here! We only have daffs and snow drops at the moment. Enjoy it all lovely southern lady:)
Beautiful! The top left picture looks like it could inspire some diy outdoor furniture! I too am ready to get going on some spring plants, although planters are my only option at the moment. :) The last Southern Living had some beautiful tulip combos for planters.
Unfortunately I can't offer any advice in the way of yards. All I know is consistent fertilizing, aerating and weed killer DOES make a noticeable difference. We pay to have our yard treated three times a year, but I'm sure with a little elbow grease and a good how to book we could do it ourselves. :) Good luck!
Oh, I am just dying to get out in the garden! Here in Seattle, it's cold, gray, dark and depressing (as the other commenter mentioned). I can't wait to see some color! In terms of being economical, I just try to plant the right plant for the right spot...using things that do well in the climate/spot in the yard minimizes the amount of work I need to do to keep them alive. It's surprising how many native plants are actually so beautiful! :)
Ooooh....I can't wait to get started in my garden. We won't be moving until end of June, so I think this year it will be more clean up and see what we have...but I'm so excited. I'm sure your yard is lovely Paula...how could it be anything but?
I'm ready too! Our front yard is already greening up (of course, it's mostly because of the weeds) and Wes has already cut it once. I'm curious about how things will bloom this year, too. The early flowering trees were definitely a little sad looking.
I would sooooo love a garden like this but living in London makes it hard to find places with the space.
Can you tell me where to buy this book "the garden" and the author? Thank you
