Painting {opinions please}

I finally started one of the final house projects on my list for this year, painting the house. It took me much too long to find a paint color I would want throughout all the main living areas. I settled on Sherwin Williams Creamy after deciding a pure white would not work in my humble abode. My first plan was to paint EVERYTHING this creamy color, but after seeing last months House & Garden I decided to try out keeping the trim dark.

I LOVED everything about this home feature especially the paint colors. I am honestly on the fence on what I think about it in my own home. I feel the contrast might be too jarring. The paint they used has a little more greige undertones than mine, but it's close-ish. I could lighten the trim a couple of shades which sounds like so much work, paint it out cream like my original plan, or keep it as is. Maybe once I put everything back in and add my many layers of decor it will give me the feel I so adore about the House & Garden home. What are your thoughts? For now I am at a stand still on painting till I make a decision. Oh, and I can't tell you how happy I am to get rid of the paint that was there. Although nice, I never liked the yellow undertones it cast during certain times of day. I am sure some of you will like the old color better, but I am in dire need of a change and the old paint is a mess after all these years. All my favorite homes that I see are light and bright so I decided to give it a go.

I think it looks great! If you are comparing it to the House & Garden space, I think your trim might even be a little bit lighter (but it could just be showing that way in the photo). -Rachel

I really like the dark trim! It looks classic and yet has a modern feel at the same time. I think it will look even better when you add all of your decor back it - the dark trim will provide an additional layer to give your home character.

It looks AWESOME! I've thought endlessly about changing out my white trim, but I'm so not creative...the only option I ever considered was black. This looks outstanding! I agree, you're just not used to it yet. :-)

Paula- I think it looks amazing! I normally really like the crispness of a high-gloss white on the trim, but I think your colors look wonderful. They look elegant, soft, and sophisticated...a look I would love to be able to pull off in my house:) I would say save yourself all the work and keep it!

I LOVE the creamy paint with the dark trim. Seriously!!! Put a room or two back together and see what you think. My kitchen is all a wash of white (BM China White) and while I like it and love the look when I see it in photos, it is pretty stark. I don't think I'd want that for my whole house.

I LOVE your general style..and this is so elegant! I agree with the first comment, your trim looks lighter than the H&G pic... but maybe that is the photo.
I would keep it for sure. It's beautiful!

I really like your trim color. Also, I'm curious as to your thought process on deciding that stark white wouldn't work well in your home...

Paula, I'm in a similar position to where you are on my paint. We have greige walls and white trim (was a quick decision, as we were moving in fast to a fixer upper). Now I'm seriously thinking of going all Dove White, or going BM White Dove with a gray trim like yours OR, pick a pale warm gray and painting trim and wall color the same. I love your trim color now...but I think your rooms are more spacious than my little Homewood house, so I worry that it will "break up" my rooms too much? But I think you should keep your trim as is and go Creamy on the walls.

How does "Creamy" compare to BM White Dove?

I love it. I think you should pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Maybe even pour a tall glass of iced tea. sit back and take it all in!

If the creamy color is what is shown in the picture above than I say keep it. It looks great and very much like your style. I love any kind of brightening up. And for trim, I either like bright white or a darker griege color like you have!

I think the dark trim is perfectly alight with Paula style!!!! go for it and post pictures please, can't wait to see!

So... is the trim in your first pic the existing color paired with the Creamy walls? Sorry.... I mgiht not be reading it correctly!?!

Maybe so... I love the way it looks. Love!

This looks amazing! Don't change a thing. Live with it for at least a few months. It is stunning!

What are you talking about?! No hesitations needed. It looks fantastic and very much like the magazine. The trim contrast is not overpowering at all - just perfect! You will see when all "things" are back and sans the dust pan! Ha!

I have missed you! Always fun hearing from you. You are a favorite of mine.

Hugs to you all,

Mon

I am so horrible about commenting but I just had to tell you I love the paint! Keep the creamy walls and the foreign trim. I love love love it. Not too jarring at all!!!
